Our Home Iznik

This city stands where the gentle hills of ancient Bithynia embrace the mirror-like shimmer of Lake Iznik. Iznik is more than just geography — it is a spirit, a sanctuary, a serene elegance that transcends time.

Once known by the name Nicaea, these lands have been the crossroads of empires and the cradle of civilizations for over two millennia. Its legacy is still whispered in Roman gates, Byzantine churches, and Ottoman mosques. The First Council of Nicaea, convened here in 325 AD, became a turning point that shaped the course of the history of faith.

Cultural Depth and Natural Richness

Yet, the essence of Iznik is not hidden only in stones. It lives in the fertility of its soil, the scent of wild thyme carried by the wind, and the sweet breezes passing over olive groves and sun-drenched vineyards. Nourished by the lake and blessed by the rhythm of the seasons, these lands have been a source of life where seeds sprout, bees buzz in harmony, and nature offers its purest gifts.

With its natural beauty and cultural depth, Iznik is included in UNESCO’s World Heritage Tentative List. It is virtually an open-air museum under the sky, with its preserved city walls, meticulously planned streets, sacred sites, and artistic heritage.

The Symbol of Elegant Arts and Fine Craftsmanship

During the Ottoman era, Iznik became the symbol of elegant arts. Its tiles, adorned with tulips, carnations, and pomegranates, emerged from humble kilns to reach the most magnificent palaces. That spirit of fine craftsmanship and devotion still lives today in the hands that touch the soil, the bees, and the clay molded under the Anatolian sun.

As House of Hunny, we are bound to Iznik with a deep sense of belonging, both to its natural richness and its cultural roots. Our bees roam freely, feeding on the following riches that have existed in these lands for centuries:

  • Endemic plants and wildflowers
  • Deeply aromatic oak trees
  • Aromatic herbs and wind-swept wild thyme
To us, Iznik is a place where nature, history, and the heart unite. And we are deeply honored to call this place our home.
